Tommy Odetto has been blazing quite a trail for himself this past year. After a Killer set at last year’s Conejo and getting invited onstage to jam with Grohl and Chevy Metal, the Fairfax native has stirred quite a buzz all the way down to Southern California.
This year, he was direct support for Chevy Metal at Conejo Valley Days and boy, did he bring his a game! Backed by younger brother Nick Odetto on Drums, Tim Baker (Bass), and Milo Horstman (Rhythm Guitar), the band played a smoking set of blues Rock with Tommy killing it on lead. The 28 year old axe man is gifted with amazing riffs and poise reminding us of a young Stevie Ray Vaughan is set to record this summer at the famed 606 Studio. His set was composed of original material and wicked Amy Winehouse cover joined on vocals by the talented Myeshia Cleveland.
Tommy has been working tirelessly with his management to raise the balance of studio fees on a gofundme page.   His true love of music and the soulful way he plays is sure to come through on his recordings. He has a commanding stage presence and band that plays as tight as ever it won’t be long before Tommy Odetto is a household name. The set was killer and played straight from the heart it’s good to see that in such a young talented player these days. If you’re out in the Bay Area, be sure to catch one of his sets.

It was Codi Binkley who had booked the band the Bad Jones into B&V Whiskey Bar and Grill a while back and told us “you’ve got to check this guy Tommy Odetto out.”

And he wasn’t lying. Odetto tore the stage up that night with his blues-based hard rock playing, which showed much more prowess than his 28 years on this earth should have allowed. But, after getting to know him a little, it became clear that it was no accident.

Born in Fairfax in Marin County to a fifth generation Fairfax family, there was not a lot of music in his house. His father was a police officer and his mother was a volleyball player, but that didn’t stop young Odetto from checking out the acts in the lively Fairfax music scene by peering through the windows. He put his first gigging band, Soul Pie, together when he was just 15 years old and has been on a quest to play with whoever he can ever since. That quest has found him sharing the stage with Carlos Santana and Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters. And Bad Jones has appeared on the marquee with acts like Foreigner, Eddie Money, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and more.

Opening the show was an impressive new guitar player, Tommy Odetto. He was high energy and full of passion. His band sounded solid and put on a strong, opening performance. Tommy is currently working on his own recording project. He caught the eye of Dave Grohl (Nirvana/Foo Fighters) and is set to record at the now famous 606 Studios made famous in Dave’s Sound City documentary. If you want to check out his project and even donate to the cause, you will be helping support one man’s dream project.
